How to Know If you have Prostate Problems
Men who are older or have a family history should visit their doctor regularly for a screening. A simple PSA blood test can detect an over-inflated prostate. It can also show if there’s a chance of developing cancer or any other medical issues that require treatment.
If you believe that your doctor has diagnosed you with a prostate condition, they will ask about your symptoms. Tell them how long they have been going on. You’ll be asked if there is any burning or pain when you urinate. They may also ask if your urine has changed. They may recommend a digital rectal exam (DRE), where a gloved and lubricated finger is placed on the prostate from inside your rectum. This takes around 10-15 seconds.
Prostate problems can be characterized by a variety of symptoms
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland found in the lower urinary tract, in the front and back of the penis. It produces semen which is used for the production sperm. BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) is the most prevalent prostate problem. This occurs when prostate enlarges, causing it to interfere with urine flow. Other symptoms include painful or difficult urination and a weak urine flow. Fecal incontinence is another symptom of BPH. The prostate can cause a more serious symptom, such as not being able urinate. This is a medical crisis.
Medicine for Prostate Problems
There are several different medicines available to help treat prostate problems. They can come in the form or tablets or liquids, which are then put into a suppository. The liquid is passed into your bladder through the penis. A common medication is saw palmetto, which can be bought as a herbal supplement in pill form or in a liquid extract. These medications can either be taken by themselves or in combination with other medications, according to your doctor.
Surgery for Prostate Disorders
Surgery may be an option if lifestyle changes and medications do not improve your symptoms. The surgery could be performed by your GP at their office or by an urologist at the hospital. Your doctor or specialist will discuss the pros and cons of each type surgery so that you can choose what is right for you. They will also discuss any other options available, including regular checkups with a urologist or your GP.
The good news is that BPH, and most other prostate problems, aren’t a sign of cancer. But that does not mean they should be ignored. You should continue to visit your GP regularly and have your PSA and DRE tested. These can be the best way of detecting cancer or other conditions before they become serious. If the disease is detected early on, treatments are available that can save a life. This is especially true of prostate carcinoma, which can be treated if caught before it progresses.
